L’Autore del romanzo recensito dal giovane Mazzini, indicato non con il suo nome ma come autore di un precedente romanzo, La Sibilla Odaleta , si chiamava Carlo Varese (1793-1866). Both " Ligure Girlfriend" and "The Sibyl Odaleta " can be downloaded from Google Books. The "Girlfriend" was also a long review, stroncatoria on Anthology, 1828, Volume XXXI, edition of July No 91, pp. 115-128 KKY signed, which should be of Tommaseo that took into account the review already done by Mazzini (see p. 115). Apart from the literary value of the novels of Charles Varese, who died in 1866, we find that his name appears in the literature on anti-Semitism. In his novel, which was very popular but now is no longer even mentioned in the Dictionary Bompiani, reference was made to "ritual murder" practiced by the Jews. Against his work and his memory was triggered by the complaint is Jewish and he does reflect, at least requiring a review of critical opinion stratificatosi over time.
