Intervista a Mark Menozzi

Dopo avervi deliziati (non provate a negarlo!) con la magnifica recensione de "Il Re Nero" , pubblico anche l'interista all'autore, anch'essa per il portale Dragons' Lair , ma ancora non pubblicata. Visto che non aggiorno il blog da eoni (martedì prossimo mi laureo, prometto di tornare a scriverci con una certa regolarità poi!), ho deciso di inserirla qua per allietare queste afose giornate estive.

Ora, un paio di premesse all'intervista.
Prima premessa: ho apprezzato molto il lavoro di Marco and I think "The Black King" a good example of how in Italy there is still hope for fantasy literature.

1) Meanwhile, because Mark and Mark? An editorial choice or your own preference? It is the same motivation for the title?
A: Let's say che Mark è un tocco fantasy! Il titolo è nato spontaneamente mentre concepivo la storia. Non poteva esistere titolo più adatto.
2) I titoli dei capitoli coi nomi dei protagonisti mi hanno subito fatto pensare a “Le Cronache del Ghiaccio e del Fuoco” di Martin (e ho letto in una delle interviste di cui sopra che Martin stesso è fra i tuoi autori preferiti). Quanto hanno influito le tue letture sull'ideazione e la stesura de “Il Re Nero”?
R: Indubbiamente Martin è con Tolkien e Gemmel uno dei miei autori prediletti, e il suo modo di presentare i capitoli seguendo ogni volta un personaggio mi piaceva molto, anche se poi nel Re Nero è leggermente diverso, e la vision is less subjective. I'm a fan of reading and my own readings influenced me.
3) From the same interview, show your friendship and collaboration with Pierdomenico Baccalario. Going to snoop on his page on Wikipedia I noticed a work entitled "The People of Tarkaan. This is a story related?
R: say that is a small tribute to my dear friend Pierdominici I wanted to do, inspiring one of the protagonists of his work to me.
4) The element on which more emphasis was placed on the presentation of the novel is the presence of a character of color. In fact there are very few predecessors, as "The Wizard of Earthsea" by Ursula Le Guin or "eternal champion" by Michael Moorcock. You have drawn inspiration from some novel or special character, or Manatasi was a "spontaneous birth"?
R: Manatasi was born during a campaign of role-playing game. I had developed a culture of Warantu, based on shamanism, legends and cultures of Africa (Zulu in particular), and the thing was good. When they asked me to write a novel Valdar I immediately thought that these ideas could also be interesting to readers.
5) I think, even more so in the sense of Manatasi stress, the environment is nice to have the right mix of elements Classic fantasy with other atmospheres, such as shamanism and African. Whence originated this component? E 'was difficult to fit into a world of fantasy canon done enough?
R: I am a fan of mythology and myth in general. When I conceived Valdar departed from a stem fantasy classic, Old Norse, but also graft traditions are quite different. It makes little sense in a land as vast as Valdar there is a unitary culture. The Warantu follows this tradition and its my decision. 6) Del mondo di Valdar è stato scritto che è il luogo in cui avete ambientato la vostra campagna di lunga data. Anche se D&D non viene mai menzionato, posso supporre a ragione che si tratti di un'ambientazione personale per questo specifico gioco di ruolo? Se sì, e considerando il numero di anni da cui esiste, con quale edizione di D&D ha visto la sua genesi? Altrimenti qual'è stata la sua genesi ludica?
R: Valdar nacque come ambientazione per un gioco di ruolo realizzato da me e dai miei amici che si chiamava Estelmor. Nel corso degli anni fu adattata anche al Girsa, al RoleMaster, ad AD&D, Harp e poi anche D & D d20 system.
7) The events narrated in the novel corresponds to the campaign? If yes, how much? If not, what relationships they have with what has been played around the table?
R: The campaign serves as a base, and the unraveling of the story is quite true, as they are faithful to the characters who were the protagonists. Obviously too many things from the game have been adapted, but it was inevitable.
8) I would like a critique (with application attached): I noticed several typos that have escaped and even some gross error, and this unfortunately is a common finding in the Italian fantasy. The editing of a novel by a newcomer is likely willing to be relegated to the friend's turn? There is a picture editor of this competent but especially at the level of small publishers?
A: I sincerely I have seen worse around. In fact, the editing was done by a professional, but personally I still have the power to criticize.
9) While many speculate about the second episode of "The Black King" (which look like), the rumor of a project role-playing game based on the novel. Some more news?
R: In fact you are working on a setting of Valdo. But for now I have not enough evidence to talk about it.
