I wanted to review this book just read, but the final exams and the thesis I have kept my mind occupied so incessante, mentre volevo sedermi tranquilla al pc e scrivere con calma. Alla fine il tempo trascorso mi ha permesso di riflettere sull'interpretazione immediatamente successiva alla lettura e sono contenta di poter mettere sul piatto un po' di riflessioni aggiuntive.
Intanto la classificazione canonica mi impone di inserirlo nella categoria "horror", ma di fatto è una storia d'amore.
Soltanto leggendo il romanzo si percepisce come l'orrore sia su un livello del tutto differente da quello che ci si aspetterebbe da una prima presentazione del libro.
L'orrore fisico è sì presente, ma talmente irreale da risultare grottesco e poco tangibile. E' invece l'orrore del contesto a creare un disagio profondo nel lettore, quella sensazione of "all wrong" that could be resolved before it is too late. There is a need of wanting to put everything in place, a sense of urgency to a situation that sooner or later will fall by force into chaos. E 'impotence in the face of a story that takes place before our eyes in a direction that smells more of a disaster.
The ending is not at all liberating. It remains a bitter taste in the mouth, and sadness for something that did not go the right way from the start and that did not have real opportunities to change its course.

There are two parents and a son. The engine of all is, despite the obvious abominations emotional love. Who knows quante volte abbiamo avuto davanti agli occhi esempi di genitori che in nome dell'amore per i propri figli hanno agito in assoluta controtendenza a qualunque logica e a qualunque regola del buon senso. Chissà quante volte ci siamo trovati a deplorarli, a pensare a quelle povere creature destinate a scontrarsi con la dura realtà una volta che l'ala protettiva dei loro guardiani verrà, per forza di cose, a mancare.
Inevitabilmente ci si guarda allo specchio e ci si fa un esame di coscienza. Quanto è giusto fregarsene delle convenzioni per seguire le proprie idee e la propria morale? Quanto stiamo danneggiando i nostri figli costringendoli a uno stile di vita per noi giusto ma lontano da quello "normale"?
Ma soprattutto, se un bambino è happy, we could not observe with the eye free of any stereotype? We could not enjoy his smile without outrage of how this has been achieved?
I answer I have not found it yet. And for that alone I think "Take Heart" deserves much more than a label of "horror novel."
conclude with a comment about the style. The author tends to repeat concepts several times along the narrative, sometimes with repetitions so obvious and so trivial as to be annoying phrases. From secular, I imagine this is a deliberate choice, giving the novel a fairy tale atmosphere that reinforces even more natural sense of detachment that an adult is faced with a situation del tutto surreale, ma dall'altro accentua il disagio di trovarsi di fronte a una delle tante fiabe moderne a cui la cronaca ci ha, purtroppo, abituati.
