Ecco dunque spiegati i quasi ; non siamo di fronte all'opera di un divulgatore scientifico ma di un prepartissimo creativo che ha cercato, cedendo alle lusinghe di un editore, di narrare il suo personale percorso formativo di scrittore e di appassionato, limitatamente alle indagini per Il quinto giorno .
Il risultato purtroppo è di dubbia qualità. La lettura de Il mondo d'acqua mi ha lasciato talmente stranito da rendermi difficile trovare un bandolo dal quale dipanare this review. In fact it is a messy book .

I think it was in the best intentions of the author make the book comprehensible to readers more refractory to the sciences, but the tricks used to achieve this was largely unsuccessful. First

Purtroppo anche solo consultare l'indice in cerca dei capitoli interessanti è una roulette russa per i motivi già esposti.

Quindi, libro bocciato? No, non del tutto. Ammetto d'aver tratto un'infinità di informazioni e di spunti di indagine durante la lettura. Ne sono uscito arricchito e sensibilizzato su alcuni temi che il buon Frank, con una partecipe preoccupazione ecologista ma anche con un maturo distacco e senza aperte ed infervorte accuse a destra e a manca, è riuscito a farmi prendere a cuore.
Purtroppo sono stati troppi i momenti in cui ho soltanto desiderato che il libro finisse per potermi dedicare ad altro. La mole non incoraggia: oltre 500 pagine di altalenante seppur competente pseudodivulgazione sono dure da digerire in questa forma.

Se c'è da riconoscere un merito a Schätzing, è certamente quello di aver saputo mantenere una distanza ed una lucidità eccezionale su scottanti temi di ecologia e sviluppo sostenibile, nonchè di aver saputo tracciare senza teatrali allarmismi ma con poca pietà disastrosi scenari di catastrfi geologiche su ampia scala.
Non è facile capire come i dinosauri possano essersi estinti a causa di un meteorite (se si esclude una qualche forma allergica, come proponeva il buon Guzzanti), finchè qualcuno non riesce a mostrarti una vivida immagine delle conseguenze di un simile schianto. Allora tutto diventa chiaro e si comincia davvero a tremare.

In definitiva, un libro per nulla carente nella sostanza ma decisamente poco riuscito nella forma. Consigliato solo a coloro che adorano il mare sopra ogni else and looking for a starting point for their own personal investigations.
