I feel obliged to two premises in this review:

• consider "double bonds" a novel moderately
• years were not crying so much reading a book.

These two points are a kind of paraphrase of my final decision: a nice little story written well.
but I do not want to analyze these two aspects separately, because I believe that they are closely related.

First of all, history is not one, but as the title suggests, but two. These are two events that are focal points that develop in two different historical periods.

Mia madre non ha mai imparato a usare il videoregistratore: credo sarebbe più felice di leggere una frase del tipo "inserì la videocassetta e fece partire il film" invece che sorbirsi un elenco di azioni tecniche che di fatto per lei non hanno alcun significato e che non aggiungono nulla alla narrazione.

Allo stesso modo, il romanzo è ricco di frasi ridondanti, che non fanno altro che rimarcare ciò che è stato espresso appena una riga prima. A volte ci si trova di fronte a ben tre frasi diverse finalizzate a esprimere lo stesso concetto.

Anche i dialoghi sono affetti da questa sovrabbondanza di parole. La considero però una pecca minore, perché l'effetto di un dialogo realistico (al di là di quello che possono dire tanti puristi della scrittura) ha comunque il suo perché. Questo non toglie che una sfoltita non avrebbe fatto male collection.

Eppure, nonostante questo, il romanzo ha un suo ritmo, anche se non costante e a volte veramente mortificato dallo stile.
Per tornare alle premesse iniziali, ho affermato di aver pianto e anche parecchio. Perché la storia è realmente buona, l'idea di fondo originale sviluppata bene e con coerenza. Returning from a weekend away, I am reviewing this little book (actually published a story not so long in solitary) whose reading took me last night, leaving me hanging in the balance between emotion and nausea.

Il risultato purtroppo è di dubbia qualità. La lettura de Il mondo d'acqua mi ha lasciato talmente stranito da rendermi difficile trovare un bandolo dal quale dipanare this review. In fact it is a messy book .

Quindi, libro bocciato? No, non del tutto. Ammetto d'aver tratto un'infinità di informazioni e di spunti di indagine durante la lettura. Ne sono uscito arricchito e sensibilizzato su alcuni temi che il buon Frank, con una partecipe preoccupazione ecologista ma anche con un maturo distacco e senza aperte ed infervorte accuse a destra e a manca, è riuscito a farmi prendere a cuore.
Purtroppo sono stati troppi i momenti in cui ho soltanto desiderato che il libro finisse per potermi dedicare ad altro. La mole non incoraggia: oltre 500 pagine di altalenante seppur competente pseudodivulgazione sono dure da digerire in questa forma.

Se c'è da riconoscere un merito a Schätzing, è certamente quello di aver saputo mantenere una distanza ed una lucidità eccezionale su scottanti temi di ecologia e sviluppo sostenibile, nonchè di aver saputo tracciare senza teatrali allarmismi ma con poca pietà disastrosi scenari di catastrfi geologiche su ampia scala.
Non è facile capire come i dinosauri possano essersi estinti a causa di un meteorite (se si esclude una qualche forma allergica, come proponeva il buon Guzzanti), finchè qualcuno non riesce a mostrarti una vivida immagine delle conseguenze di un simile schianto. Allora tutto diventa chiaro e si comincia davvero a tremare.

In definitiva, un libro per nulla carente nella sostanza ma decisamente poco riuscito nella forma. Consigliato solo a coloro che adorano il mare sopra ogni else and looking for a starting point for their own personal investigations.
