Uberto Ceretoli - Il sigillo del vento

Comincio subito col dire una cosa: questo libro non mi è piaciuto. Non mi ha annoiata e non ritengo una perdita di tempo le serate trascorse a leggerlo, se è questo che state pensando.
Cercherò di spiegarvi because I think it a bad book and why, at the same time, I enjoy reading it.

For once I have a fairly systematic approach, because I'd like to give a broad enough view of a text that I studied from many points of view.
be clear, I will not launch into any literary criticism ferocious style Shrimp Fantasy, because I would not have the skills but also the intention. I state that I do not have the author nor the publisher. This appraisal has helped to me to understand some concepts about writing (good and bad) and carry it all here because maybe someone will be able to draw something useful.

So we begin. The first impact is a prologue by the poetic imagery and built with a simile after another. The linguistic properties seemed good, so I thought it was a stylistic choice. Before reaching the end of the first page, but I realized that the author has made a master key similarity. Every time he has to describe something, use of this trope. It seems a bad choice: the similarity has great power and should be used to strike the reader, not to force him to continue mental comparisons. I realize that the temptation to strike up images of great impact is still there, but we must be able to give a better sentence if it is too (sigh).

E 'followed by a short (very short) stage in which the enthusiasm of the typical fantasy clichés seemed to have been reinterpreted so clever and original. I just go ahead a few pages to realize that not only all the archetypes were not many changes, but that the book was taking a turn decidedly unpleasant.
In fact, I found myself reading the narrative of a campaign of Dungeons and Dragons, which is not bad in itself (I was looking for "vulgar fantasy" and D & D is the vulgar fantasy that I like!) but at least I wish it were coherent and well written.
Instead, I not only found inconsistencies and absurdities true (if a man believes Jaguar a human unattractive because of the diversity, why should a dwarf elf considered the most beautiful creature of the entire universe?), but everything seemed is verbatim from a game manual.
Phrases like "spell of the ball of fire" and "launched on either a spell of levitation," dwarfs who think only of food, beer and pissed off with everything and everyone, elves, beautiful, talented and powerful, all beautiful, sensual women, kids they learn to fight in a single day of training (only in one case it is justified) and so this is all a bunch of things already seen and retract put together for no reason.
Many sentences are about, and descriptions are built with a simile after another and the vocabulary is general and not very sharp, except for fields in which the author is an expert. In these cases doth lists of specific terms on armor and defensive systems, then use generic words of all the rest. Jars so much that it would be better, in my opinion does not even go into detail about them.

regard to style, I found it rather irritating to hear me explain every single thing. Each box is composed of a speech in direct discourse and explanation, as if I were too stupid to understand player's state of mind of the character who is speaking. Perhaps the author is afraid of not being too clear? But you can always write 600 pages in doubt that they were not very clear?

What pisses me off, because if it was not clear I'm really pissed off reading "The seal of the wind," is that sometimes emerge of nice songs, spontaneous rhythm with a pleasant, tucked in the middle pages of narrative annoying. Yes, annoying is the correct term. Because words and the rhythm will not follow absolutely what is narrated. The author uses terms that are too light for deep and painful feelings ("the sorrow of losing her children forever") or extreme (such as "hate") for passengers instead contexts. Whole pages are spent for moments of transition and dialogues volte inutili, mentre l'intero climax di una situazione dominante viene bruciato in mezza pagina.

Allo stesso modo, ogni tanto sono presenti degli spunti veramente interessanti, elementi carini e divertenti, passaggi nella storia per niente banali, eppure l'originalità viene velocemente sacrificata sotto il macigno della banalità. Non mi lamento dell'eroe dal passato oscuro che sente di volersi riscattare (non c'è niente di male a utilizzare un archetipo come base del proprio lavoro), ma delle frasi scontate, dei passaggi obbligati affinché la storia prosegua in una certa direzione, dei dialoghi senza senso che servono soltanto a propinare al lettore il monologo del cattivone che deve raccontare la propria filosofia di vita.

Why this book taught me a lot. He showed me what is wrong in my way of writing, so similar to that of Ceretoli if I think back to my stories of not so long ago.
It made me more vigilant in the face of those who still easy to slip is not a professional and would like to fill the gaps with small flashes of skill. But as the technique is missing, you just put their heads down and learn, learn, learn (and please send to hell the Strazzulla the next time you can make some statements ).
That is why I want to trust the publisher has assured me that as the second book in the trilogy is actually more mature and nice.
Again, if I got angry reading the book, it was not against the author (which also has just accepted my friendship on facebook and so now can insult me \u200b\u200bdirectly!) Nor with the publisher, but only because I was frustrated to read a novel written in that way.
I can not consider that "The Seal of the Wind" is the first fantasy novel of Ceretoli as the first fantasy novel line published by Asengard. There is always room to grow and improve, so I'm going to read without the paranoia and prejudice below.

Here, emerging from all this I feel a new need, or direct confrontation. I'd love to talk to Ceretoli and other Italian authors write. But not in the salons of the closed forum where only haunt those involved. I'd love a good open discussion on "neutral ground". Maybe
